Inspiring the Next Generation of Construction Professionals

Career day is always a highly anticipated event for the students at Sylvania Heights Elementary School. This year, two lucky kindergarten classes got a visit from our own Jason Goltzman and the MCM Safety Team.

Jason discussed the importance of safety with the young students, but he didn’t just lecture them; he interacted with them, making safety fun. He demonstrated how to put on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and discussed what each individual piece was used for.

By asking higher order thinking questions like why, when and comparing construction safety to school safety, Jason was able to really connect with the students. In the end, he stressed to the students that the most important thing is to always follow the rules.

Jason’s teachings about safety were well aligned with the school’s mission, to “Empower our students to become lifelong learners and responsible citizens by promoting collaboration, focusing on critical thinking, fostering independence and applying our four ‘R’ value system, Rights, Rules, Responsibility and Respect to everything we do.”

The children were very eager to participate in the safety presentation and each received a small MCM rubber/foam hardhat as well as a coloring sheet to decorate their classrooms for National Safety Month, which takes place every June.

At MCM, being involved in the community is just part of who we are, which is why Sylvania Heights Career Day was such a rewarding experience for everyone involved. Our team is always eager to give back to our community, promote education and inspire children to dream.

Way to go Jason and team!
