The Homestead Elementary Groundbreaking Ceremony
February 9 was a very gray and wet Monday morning, but walking into the Media Center at Homestead Elementary School, the mood turned sunny and warm. Students, faculty and esteemed members of the school board and City of Homestead were there to celebrate the start of a much needed renovation project.
The ceremony was kicked-off by Tammy Edouard, the school's principal. She introduced the students of South Dade Senior High School, who performed the Presentation of Colors, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Alberto Carvalho, superintendent of the School Board of Miami-Dade, acknowledged the importance of the project for the Homestead region and reiterated his commitment to support District 9, to ensure all schools are up to par with the rest of the county. Carvalho recognized MCM for our hard work and commitment to bringing quality work to the school board for the past 20 years. Lawrence Feldman, District 9 representative, thanked Carvalho for the support and recognized the hard work of councilmember Patricia Fairhoff to bring the joint funding initiative to fruition.
The Homestead Elementary Project has dual funding from both M-DCPS and the City of Homestead. As Mayor Jeffrey Porter mentioned during his speech, it is in the best interest of the Homestead community to have the best schools, and graduate highly skilled professionals in their own turf. He also thanked MCM for their excellent work at the Homestead City Hall and gave us his vote of confidence for this project, highlighting the fact that we are currently ahead of schedule and within cost.
Jorge Munilla, Alexis Leal, Joe Fernandez, Alex Suarez, Tania Tzamtzis and Jerry Rivera represented MCM at the event, along with our small business partners Gamax Consulting, ALTA Remodeling and SAGOMA Construction who were also present at the ceremony.
